Within walking distance of the hostel there are three late bars which close at 1am*

The Seaview Tavern serves pub grub and has an excellent seafood restaurant.  There is a games room and three bars, one a unique old fashioned Irish bar.A supermarket and Post Office exists next door

Farren’s Bar. has a small shop and two bars. Excellent Bar food is available from 12 noon to 4pm and pizzas are available all day. Fishing tackle including bait and equipment may be purchased here.

The ‘Crossroads Inn’ which sadly closed after 200 years on 19th August 2013  with its 2 bars and warm welcome  WAS REFURBISHED AND REOPENED AT 3pm 1st August 2017.  Sadly since the Covid-19 Closures THE CROSSROADS has not reopened.

 

We still have three 23 hour licensed bars but only if you are in the fishing industry after * certain hours!!

A local supermarket and petrol station is 2kms away open from 8am to 8pm every day except Christmas Day.  Also Farren’s Bar has a small shop facility and is open until 1am. Famous raised beach full of precious stones nearby. Meet friendly locals on walks-in pubs-everywhere! This area is no folk village – its for real.  Walking routes in several languages. Musical instruments for guests available. No curfew but we normally cease taking new guests after 10pm to allow guests to sleep undisturbed – unless prearranged.

We do not accept credit or debit cards at the hostel. We are in Euro Land!

Recently, Derry was the UK CITY OF CULTURE and throughout the year there were numerous events taking place in the City.  As a result Derry/Londonderry City infrastructure has been immensely improved.   Numerous venues are now open having been improved, upgraded and actually built.  A simple walk along the Foyle and around the City walls will reveal the changes. Derry is only 45 to 50 minutes drive from Sandrock Holiday Hostel. So we would are a perfect base for visitors to day visit.  For current details of the events GOOGLE  Derry or Londonderry.
  •  BANKS

Nearest Banks are in Carndonagh (16kms). Open 10am to 4pm Weekdays with ATMs. Atms are also available in Carndonagh Supermarkets. Cashback available in Seaview Supermarket  Malin Head.  In Derry there are several ATMs dispensing Sterling and EUROS.

Post Office is in Seaview Supermarket Malin Head.

  • INTERNET

Internet Facilities are available in Public Library in Carndonagh but hostel has free WIFI facilities for guests  with own equipment.

  • AIRPORTS

Nearest Airport is Derry City about 35 kms ( 1 hour drive) with flights to Heathrow. Belfast International and City Airports are just 2 hour drive from hostel The small Donegal Airport is also a 2 hour drive away.

  • DONEGAL COUNTY IS A VERY LARGE AREA

Remember we are at the very top of COUNTY DONEGAL at the top of IRELAND. We are 100kms from a town called DONEGAL!
